Turquoise, Amethyst crystals and Beryl

05/31/2010 06:05:00

We had 22 people show up for the Cryo-Genie mine field trip. The Vista show in April was fun selling and seeing people. Spent seven days the end of April and beginning of May searching and finding turquoise. Three of those days were at paid sites and pounds of turquoise were taken. On May 10 it was off to the Kingston Mountain in San Bernardino county in search for Amethyst crystals. Dana the owner of the Cryo-genie mine came up at about 7AM the next day with two others to show me the mountains to dig at. It took over 2.5 hours to get to the dig spots and we climbed over 1600 feet in elevation. Talk about tired and some great crystals were found.. I did set up and sold slabs at the San Diego Mineral and Gem BBQ for that Saturday and it was a good turnout. As I am the Field trip coordinator for the El Cajon group and any one that wants to be on the list brought us great weather for the limited number of people to the Carmelita Mine. On the way home most of us went to the Donna claim to see the location two of the previous owners thought would be better to dig at. Went back this past Friday - Sunday and a few of us did dig in the recommended areas that turned out to be a bust yet it still has potential to finding some great beryl. This year like the last few, our El Cajon Rock club potluck picnic is at my place. Starts at about 10AM but you can come early if you want to fish or what ever. Date is Saturday 6/5/10.
